Bike Shop - Huge selection of Cycles, Tires, Pedals, Baskets, Bells, Grips, Clothing, Seats, Spokes, Gears and More...

This shop looks deceivably small from the front, but it is actually two very deep stores put together. There are bikes everywhere, on the floor, on the walls, on the ceiling…it’s bikes, bikes, and more bikes. And where there are not bikes there are tires, and pedals and baskets and bells and grips and bike clothes and seats and spokes and gears. I probably missed a few things but I think you get the idea. If you need it for your bike or biking - it is here!

Baskets, by the way, are not the little white wicker baskets that I remember. Now they are made from wood or metal and shaped to hold text books or grocery bags, etc. Some even detach from the bike to carry around like a tote, and then strap back on the bike for the ride home.

Erik is a very hands-on owner. I watched him hover over every aspect of customer care and service. Most people coming in the door seem to greet him, or one of his staff, by name. I watched them change a few flats. Boy, they have this down to a few-minute science. I would still be looking for the tools.

Erik carries all the basics you need, but also stays on the cutting edge of what’s new. One bike I was interested in was called an Recumbent; you sit in it much more like a soft chair and pedal with your legs straight. I asked Erik who mostly likes this kind of bike? He said older people because it was so comfortable and there was less stress on the knees. What can I say? I like this bike. Another bike he carries is a quick-fold-up-bike, and feels these are going to become a very popular and useful once the Light Rail is in operation.

Ok, if you’re curious as to why someone would name a bicycle shop Slippery Pig, read on... Erik told me that years ago he was designing a bike that would be good for going into tough, rough, muddy terrain and he had dubbed that bike ‘The Slippery Pig’. Having also been an art major, he had this done a drawing of this cute little slippery pig. Ten years ago when he bought his shop, it had to have a name, so… The Slippery Pig Bicycle Shop was born. Visit his shop you will see little ceramic pigs tucked here and there. Oh, don’t forget to say ‘hi’ to Maggie, the stores golden lab, she is a sweetheart.
