Francisco will clean your dryer vent or all the vents and duct work in your home. I asked him why a person would get their dryer vents cleaned at all. He told me, “Because it can be a fire hazard. The build-up of lint mixed with the heat from the dryer can ignite and your home could catch on fire. Also dryers must work so much harder when the air flow is constricted.” Ok, good to know.

My next question was, “How often should we get the dryer vents cleaned?” Francisco said, “For a large family using their dryer daily, once a year. For others who do not use it so much, probably every other year. Also, if you have pets that will increase how often it needs to be done because pet hair has a tendency to get stuck on the lint, making it ball up and cause clogs.

We take several steps to clean the dryer vent. First, we disconnect the dryer and use a large spinning brush that we snake thought the vent system to the outside, whether that be all the way to the roof or just up a level. After that, we use a large vacuum that sucks all the lint out. We then reconnect the dryer and double check the pressure. We make sure the hose is not crimped and that the dryer is not over heating. We also go on the roof make sure the cap is well seated and that there is no debris around the vent opening.

When it comes to your home ventilation system Francisco says it is equally important to keep the vents clean. “Because the heating and air-conditioning vents can be filled with dirt, dust, molds, mildew, debris even stuff left over from construction. The contaminates are inside the ducts and every time you turn on your heat or air conditioning it blows some of the contaminants inside your home.

The whole house is a very laborious job. First, they connect a large hose to one duct, then block off all the other register vents. Then using a large power-spinning brush, they scrape the sidewalls in the duct system. After that, they use the air compressor hose and vacuum all the debris away. They go back to each and every opening, take the cover off, and do the same process all over again until all the air duct pathways are clean. Finally, they fog to disinfect. Whew!
