Debbie has loved animals for as long as she can remember. Her first pet was a rabbit named ‘Midnight’, her next a raccoon and her life has been a joyous journey, always including her beloved companions.

I am also devoted to my little Chihuahua, Eve. Moreover, when I have to go out of town my first thought is, “will Eve be alright?” I could never take Eve to a kennel, never, never. So it was very interesting to hear Debbie say, she also thinks using a kennel when a person goes away is very sad. She said, “Our pets are use to their homes and routines just like we are, and they go through too much stress. They do not know where they are or why they are there. It’s very traumatic.” I truly believe what Debbie said.

Debbie also told me, “I don’t ever just go in to feed and water pets. I spend an average of an hour at each home. I spend time with the animals to reassure them that they are safe and I talk to them, pet them and play with them. When I visit a home, I know the animal is worried because their family is gone. I could not feel more responsibility, if it were a person I was taking care of.

I always visit my clients home before the vacation starts so I can be introduce to my new charges. It really helps that they first meet me when they are safe and happy. Then they will know they can trust me when I come in to visit when their oweners are away. I do not charge for this, I want to get to know the home, the people and their pets and to give them the opportunity to know me.

She also pick-ups mail or newspapers, turn on or off the lights while you are gone so others don’t know the house is empty and she does not charge anything extra for this either.
